Housing Assessments
How Can Access Therapy Help
People with disabilities with extreme functional impairment or high support needs have the chance to achieve their housing goals. The generous offer from the Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) and Supported Independent Living (SIL) funding gives an opportunity to NDIS participants to undergo assessment and acquire housing benefits.
Access Therapy has been supporting NDIS participants access Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) and Supported Independent Living (SIL) funding since 2017 as the NDIS rolled out across Sydney. Our therapists are experienced in assessing the housing and support needs of those who are ready to explore housing options. We complete a comprehensive assessment of your participation in all aspects of day to day life including your support needs, assistive technology, and environment and community access.
Your therapist works with you and those supporting you to develop a comprehensive report outlining your needs. Once approved, we support further applications for assistive technologies (including environmental controls) and specific design of the properties’ facilities (kitchen, laundry bathroom) to maximise your independence in your new home.
Who Can Apply
Due to the costly nature of a housing plan, SDA only takes in participants who are eligible. During the assessment, we will first look into the participant’s housing goals and aspirations. Furthermore, the assessment would require us to look at:
- The impact of the disability in the person’s mobility, dependence, and self-management
- The support system the person has to achieve their housing goal
- The kind of housing along with the recommended size and location
There are several terms and conditions stipulated by the NDIS in which the assessment should also address. These rules can be viewed on the NDIS website .
